Intro
You set the price. We keep a share we don't publish.
I'm Chris, one of the co-founders of Autopilot. Money is the question every prospective Pilot wants answered first and asks last. Here's how it works, what I won't tell you because we don't publish it, and the incentive on our side that cuts against you.
One thing first, because we're an SEC-registered investment adviser and I have to say it. Autopilot is the app. The actual investment advice comes from Autopilot Advisers, LLC. If you want the full legal version of anything in here, it's on our legal page.
Pilots set their own subscription price for their Portfolios. It's a recurring subscription your followers pay for as long as they follow. Not a percentage of their assets, and it doesn't depend on how much money they have.
One subscription to you covers every Portfolio you publish. A follower who takes two or three of your Portfolios pays you once. The price shows in the app, and it's separate from the platform tiers followers pay us for the app itself.
By the numbers
Our difference
How the money actually works
1) You earn recurring revenue, and we keep a share
Our help center says it in one line: creators set their own subscription price and earn recurring revenue from their subscriber base.
Autopilot keeps a share of that subscription. I'm not going to put a percentage here. We don't publish the split, and a number on a page that never changes would be the wrong number eventually.
What I can tell you is that the economics are a share of a price you control, tied to how many people choose to follow you and keep following. That's the incentive we want you to have. Build something people stay subscribed to.
2) What doesn't change your pay
Your followers' account sizes. How often they trade. What brokerage they use.
You aren't paid on assets, and nothing in the model rewards you for making followers trade more. Our manifesto names percentage-of-assets fees as one of the things wrong with the industry, and that applies to how you're paid too.
3) The incentive on our side
I want to be honest with you. Some Portfolios are run by Autopilot Advisers itself, the hedge fund trackers and a few others, bundled into our Premium Tier. We keep the whole platform fee on those. Your Portfolio's subscription is shared with you.
So we could have an incentive to favor our own Portfolios over yours in how things are presented. Our disclosures say so.
Two more things you should know. We receive referral compensation from a brokerage partner when clients we refer open and fund accounts, disclosed in our footer and Form CRS. And the app surfaces Portfolios by performance and by how much money follows them, among other views, which favors whoever is already winning.
My answer to all of it is the same for every Pilot. Identical records in the app. Identical rules. A number you can point strangers to that we computed and you didn't.

Conclusion
What a good outcome looks like
A Portfolio people stay subscribed to for years because the record held up and the description told the truth. That's slower than a viral month and worth more, to you and to us.
Read the whole series if you haven't. What a Pilot is. Why publish here. What followers can check about you and what you can check about us. How to build a Portfolio that follows. Where we came from. How a launch works. Then apply, and arrive with the record you'd be proud to start over.
TLDR: You set a recurring price. One subscription covers all your Portfolios. We keep a share we don't publish. Your pay doesn't depend on follower assets or trading. We run some Portfolios ourselves and keep the full platform fee on those, which is a conflict we disclose. The record is the same for everyone.
FAQ
Does Autopilot compete with its own Pilots?
Autopilot Advisers runs some Portfolios itself, bundled into Premium Tier, and keeps the whole platform fee on those while sharing third-party Pilots' subscriptions with them. Our disclosures describe that as a possible incentive to favor our own Portfolios. Every Portfolio's record in the app is computed the same way from actual follower accounts, so followers can compare our Portfolios and yours on identical terms.
Does one subscription cover all of a Pilot's Portfolios?
Yes. Subscriptions are tied to Pilots, not to individual Portfolios. A follower who subscribes to you can follow any or all of the Portfolios you publish under that one subscription, and switching between them costs them nothing extra.
Do Pilots set their own subscription price on Autopilot?
Yes. Autopilot's help center states that creators set their own subscription price and earn recurring revenue from their subscriber base. The price appears in the app, and it's separate from the platform tiers followers pay for the app.
How do Pilots make money on Autopilot?
Pilots set a subscription price for their Portfolios and earn recurring revenue from the followers who subscribe, with Autopilot keeping a share that it does not publish. One subscription covers all of a Pilot's Portfolios. Pay is not a percentage of followers' assets and doesn't depend on how much they trade or where they hold their accounts. Nothing here is a promise of any level of revenue.
